Cabin Makeover Underway!

Last November, we told you about a beautiful cabin that we purchased from John McCook (of the Bold and the Beautiful) and Laurette Spang McCook (of Battlestar Galactica).  The charm of the cabin is in every detail and we are so glad that the former owners kept that charm throughout the home.  As we mentioned in the first article, the kitchen was completely remodeled, so our focus has been on updating some other areas of this lovely home built in 1933.  It is still very exciting that we were able to find this gem and we’d love to update you on what we’ve done with it over the past months!

Bedroom Blues

Since this was to be our master bedroom for awhile, I laid awake wondering how we’d work with a room painted white, from floor to ceiling.  On top of that, the blue beams really jumped out at you when you climbed the stairs and entered the room.

At first I thought I’d have to paint the walls a tan color, then decided to start with the floor. I knew tan would tone everything down, so I looked for a carpet with a neutral pattern that would blend with just about everything.  Then I started looking for bedding colors and was drawn to brown and dark teal. Once I found the bedskirt, which consisted of those two colors, I had something to work with. Everything grew from there; fabric to recover a wicker chair cushion, woven wood blinds, with a touch of the outdoors (the pinecone boughs), and framed bird prints with a fabric striped matting hung from twigs and burlap ribbon.

Carefully Crafted

The master bathroom was also stark white, but with black trim. I needed inspiration, so I searched online for Vintage Lake Decorating, and got  a little carried away.

I had custom signs made, found all sorts of nautical but lake items, and good old Martha Stewart happened to publish two great display ideas that I just had to copy. One was the towels hanging from the hooks, and the other was the pine tub tray set with bathing essentials. I love setting a room as a stage, and since we don’t plan on actually using the claw foot tub, we could set it to the max, which I did.
