Your laundry room, however big or small it may be, is one of those spaces where function and organization are key! Most of us don’t have huge laundry rooms and the space we have is often robbed of its full potential. We found some great tips on Houzz that we’d like to pass along and if you’d like more ideas and images to look at, check out both of these great articles: “8 Ways to Make the Most of Your Laundry Room” and “Get More From a Multipurpose Laundry Room.”
Tip #1: Add the Right Tools
Make sure you have everything you need to make your laundry room function as best as it can. Have an easily accessible ironing board, whether it’s on the wall or within a covered drawer. Install some cabinets that are especially for hampers, which will make sorting your laundry much easier. If you don’t already have one, a floor drain can be a great idea if there’s ever an overflow or if you have a lot of clothes that need to drip dry somewhere.
Tip #2: Built-in and Build Up
Consider adding a built-in for a second refrigerator instead of putting it out into the garage. If you want to build up, try raising your washer and dryer about 15 inches, so that you don’t have to continually bend over, especially if your washer and dryer are front loading. Make sure you have storage space for all your needs, like beach towels or rainy day gear by adding some extra cabinets or shelves above the washer and dryer. If you’ve got a green thumb, an extra sink can be added to keep your plants looking good!
Tip #3: Share the space
Since laundry takes time and you have things to do, add a little sitting area and an office space, so you can get things done while your laundry is being done. If you need a pantry space, or just extra storage space near the kitchen, turn your laundry area into a place for your extra food. This can be a great idea if you have shelves or cabinets above your washer and dryer that don’t get used.
Think about what else your laundry space can provide for you, whether it’s more storage or a place to get more done. Then, rearrange or add to the space to create a great space that functions to its greatest capacity!
